The Market Tavern succeeds in looking and feeling much better on the inside than it does on the outside; so don't let the exterior put you off.

Once through the front door you find a large single area with the bar off to one side; plus a friendly welcome.

One internal feature is particularly striking. We've all seen pubs with tiling applied to the outside walls. In the Market Tavern green tiling has been used on the lower part of the inside walls, and the effect is very decorative (as well, of course, as practical).

How would you rate the atmosphere?
It's always dead Poor, either it's too quiet or too loud There's always people in, but it lacks anything special. A good crowd gets in on most nights. Everybody always seems to be having a good time, the atmosphere is ace.

 How do you rate the service?
The bar is understaffed and the service is poor. There are long waiting times due to the bar being busy. The service could be better, but you always get served pretty quickly. Service is quick and the staff are knowledgable about the products. The staff are friendly and knowledgable, and this adds to the overall experience.
 Does this place have any bonuses for students?
Not a chance. No offers, but the prices are pretty reasonable anyhow. There's are some offers available to everybody, but none specific to students. There's a discount card scheme. There are offers for students available when you show your NUS card.
